Presty the DJ for May 2

Today is the 52nd anniversary of what I used to consider the greatest radio station on the planet in its best format:

The number one British single today in 1963 was this group’s first, but certainly not last, number one British single:

The number one British album today in 1964 was named for the group:

The number one British single today in 1970:

The number one single today in 1981:

The number one single today in 1987:

Today in 1991, R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion” video was banned in Ireland because its religious imagery was deemed unfit for broadcast.

Which is another case of authorities’ not getting the meaning of a song.

The number one British album today in 1992 was The Cure’s “Wish”:

Today in 2004, Total Guitar magazine issued the results of its poll on the greatest guitar riff of all time, listed from fourth to first:

Since WLS didn’t convert from country (they were known as the “Prairie Farmer”) to top 40 until 1960, Link Wray would have been a golden oldie, not on the weekly Silver Dollar Survey:

Today is also the birthday of Goldy McJohn of Steppenwolf …

… who was born the same day as Randy Cain of the Delfonics:

Bob Henrit, who played drums for Argent and The Kinks …

… was born the same day as Lesley Gore:

Lou Gramm of Foreigner:

Prescott Niles of The Knack:
